Alright Rayne you know the drill, you know how this works and you have nothing to worry about. I tell myself that every evening as I get ready to go to work, if this was a normal job like working at the boutique I wouldn’t have to give myself this speech, but it’s not normal. Maybe I am just like my family, up until a few months ago what I was doing was illegal just like my family. I was only 17 and stripping a few months ago, now I’m 18 and I don’t have look over my shoulder, at least from a legal stand point. I use to tell myself that my father might not approve of this but considering he stole almost billions from people, I think me stripping would be the least of his issues. Sometimes I wish I could tell someone what I do just so some of this stress could be taken off my shoulders, but then how would they look at me? Like my brother Demi, would he look at me like his little sister or some street chick? So much weighs on my mind working at Cherries Bed, and now I have even more to think about. I make $2,000 a night here, but Aleiana or “Madame” as she likes to be called, just offered me a side position I’m not sure what it’s about but maybe meeting with her will get me off the pole. Maybe this is just all wrong, right?
“Hi Aleiana, Denny told me you wanted to talk to me about another position”, Rayne nervously yet excited said, “Sit down girl and slow down I’m not sure you’re quite right for this you, you seem nervous getting on stage still, and it’s Madame when you’re working”, Aleiana said with arms folded leaning back in her seat. “Well what else around here could I be doing that wouldn’t make me nervous”, Rayne asked now nervous for real, “Oh no it’s not necessarily “around” here that you would be working”, Aleiana says with a smirk. “Look your mother says you guys need more money and I know you could use it considering you’re going to be living on campus, I’m trying to help you guys so listen to this offer”, Aleiana now walking to Rayne with a book, “In this book is a list of high paying men that would pay top dollar for you”. “So I would be dancing at parties or private one on one’s”, Rayne asks, “No were not talking dancing anymore honey, we’re talking sleeping with”, Aleiana says very bluntly. “Wait what, sleeping with men now!” Rayne says now standing up angry. “Look I’ll let the new director of Sleeping in Cherries Bed explain it to you, Dolce love please finish this for me”, Aleiana says as she pours herself a drink, “Mom! How could you do this to me, you know how I feel about stripping but I’m doing this for you, to help you”, Rayne says now in tears. “Wipe your face and come here”, Dolce says in a low tone while pulling Rayne into the corner, “If you expect me to pay for you to go to college with the last bit of family money you are more far gone than I thought”, Dolce says in a stern tone. “Now wipe your face, put your make up back on and get ready for your set, I’ll have the list of clients for you after you get done dancing”, Dolce says with Aleiana looking at Rayne with a smirk. “Mom, you can’t be serious”, Rayne says hoping this is all a joke, “Demi has my respect and do you know why, it’s because he does whatever the family needs of him without whining”, Dolce says very coldly, “You’ve always wanted my respect well here’s your chance”. Rayne now looking around the room as if she is trying to find hidden camera’s with no luck. After a few seconds of thinking about her mother’s words and what this would mean for their relationship Rayne gives her answer. “Ok, I’ll do it”, Rayne says looking at her mother almost waiting for her approval, “Oh you thought I was asking, no I am telling you now this is you new position, love it or leave it for the next ambitious girl, and that girl will definitely have my respect”, Dolce says walking out of the office.
Rayne dances her whole set in a trance playing the conversion over and over in her head. After her set she takes her tips and dance request and checks her phone, she sees Neveah’s text message and starts to cry in the dressing room. After she gets herself together, she texts Neveah back: I’m sorry Veah, I fell asleep and turned my phone off. Are you OK? Rayne sits there waiting for a text back and realizes that it is 4 am.
Dear diary, what is my life turning into! Am I really this hungry for my mother’s approval and love I would pimp myself out? Apparently I am, I never knew she was this cold and I don’t even think it’s because Aleiana was there, I think it was because the money is almost not there. I knew my family was motivated by money but not to this extent. I thought that going to college and studying business so I could make part of the family business legal, but no. It’s supposed to be a mother’s job to protect her kid’s right?
